Your period and pelvic floor

Ladies with pelvic organ prolapse! Do you feel more symptomatic right before or during your period? Lower back pain, hip tightness, bulging/heaviness, tampon feeling and just more lax? The constipation during this time of your cycle doesn't help either, does it? Hormones play a huge role and some months can be better or worse. Your cervix does tend to hang a bit lower during this time of your cycle so it's completely normal to feel a worsening in symptoms. Remember, this is not a life sentence and there are things you can do to make yourself feel better during this time.

1 - Self care. If something doesn't feel good, maybe hold off until symptoms get better (this means certain exercises with impact or heavy lifting).

2 - Go back to the basics. Keep things low impact and do those glute bridges, clams, lying leg extensions and other more "gentle" exercises that don't bring pressure "down".

3 - Meditate and Breathe. Not only will this keep your anxiety at bay, but diaphragmatic breathing can ease your symptoms and get your system working in balance with your pelvic floor.

4 - Walk! With good posture and proper breathing, walking can alleviate much of those nagging prolapse symptoms. And it keeps your heart and weight in check.
